Iconostasis

In Eastern Christianity the iconostasis is the wall of icons separating the nave from the sanctuary in a church. The iconostasis typically has three openings or sets of doors, the Holy, or Royal Doors in the center, and the North and South Doors to either side. The North and South Doors are sometimes called Deacons' Doors because the deacons use them frequently. They may also be called the Angels' Doors because the Archangels Michael and Gabriel are often depicted there.
